International Math and Science Competition for students in grades 7 -12

The International Competition is organized by Mathematics and Science Society for Youth (MSSY), a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that promote STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Math) education as well as international academic and scientific exchanges for students and schools.

  • Challenge students from different countries to solve problems using their mathematical skills
  • Encourage students to share their passions in science
  • Engage middle and high school students in thoughtful research projects and collaboration

Competition Details

Round 1A: Mathematics- Problem Solving

Participants will take a written problem-solving mathematics assessment.

Test date: May 5th , 2018, 10:00 AM – 12 PM

Deadline to register: April 30th by 11:59 PM EST

Test Location: Number Street Math Academy

20 Hampden Drive, South Easton, MA

Test Fee: $25 (Online Payment)

Round 1B: Science – Science Rocks Video Fest

Participants create a short video (up to 5 min.) to demonstrate their passion for science and why science matters.

The videos showcase their past projects, area of interests, and goals for attending the competition in a creative way.

Students will evaluate each other using a rubric. The most compelling videos will be shown at final round.

Key Dates: May 20th, 2018 deadline to upload video.

June 1st, 2018 deadline to submit peer evaluation.

Round 1 Evaluation

Academic Committee evaluates students based on the overall performance in round 1. Results will be announced on June 5th, 2018

Selected participants will be invited to attend research project exploration in Boston, MA from July 21st to July 25th, 2018. The research Project is supported by local tech companies (Examples of completed research projects will be posted on website).

Final Round: Five Day STEAM-a-Thon July 21-25, 2018

Day 1: International teams are formed and mentors assigned. Teams select research topics and set goals.

Day 2: Primary and Secondary Research

Day 3: Primary and Secondary Research

Day 4: Company Visits and Research Project Wrap-up

Day 5: Research Project Presentation, Team Battles, and Awards Ceremony

Awards

  • Selected research projects will be chosen to be presented at local and international teachers’ conferences
  • Internship Opportunities are offered at tech companies
